WHAT IS HATHA YOGA?
Hatha is the discipline of forces, a branch of Yoga that seeks to preserve and channel opposing vital energies (prana) within to attain a state of mental, physical and spiritual balance. In Sanskrit, 'ha' means 'sun' and represents the active energy associated with physicality while 'tha' means 'moon' and represents the calming energy associated with mindfulness and relaxation. In other words, Hatha Yoga encourages a conscious connection and equilibrium between the internal and external worlds to inspire peace within the practitioner.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
During a typical Hatha class, this transformative journey of shifting energies can be experienced through controlled breathing techniques (pranayama) to stimulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems (responsible for inducing a state of activity or rest), Sun Salutations to activate and warm up the body, various postures (asanas) that target specific energy centres (chakras), and the famous Corpse Pose (Savasana) for relaxation where the body and mind are given time to absorb the practice in its entirety.
